I am writing this article to inform all that the decision has been made to dissolve the Jordan Lake Association. The present Association was started in the summer of 2000 after the first of our major floods. At that time, there was much interest by Lake residents in a collective effort to address flooding and other Lake issues. In 2004, we had yet another flood and shortly thereafter, a suit was filed by the Association, naming the Barry, Ionia and Kent County Drain Commissioners. At that time, some Lake residents backed away from the Association for reasons that were never very clear. It should be noted that the suit was successful with a resulting court ordered operational plan for the dam during periods of excessive rain and high lake levels. However, since 2007, very few issues of major importance have surfaced and participation in the Association has decreased dramatically. The Jordan Lake Association of 2000 was started by Mike and Marilyn Reed, my wife Marge Loughrin and myself. The Reeds moved from Jordan Lake a couple of months ago. Mike Reed and I have discussed the situation, lack of interest, over the past few years and with his departure from the Lake, Marge and I have decided not to continue with our involvement in the Association due to all of the above. Our wish is that, if others would like to continue the JLA, they need to come forward by the first of May or the Association will be dissolved. Any monies left in the Treasury, will be donated to an organization involved with the west Michigan environmental issues in Barry and Ionia counties if possible. Mike Cary
