Jordan Lake Association
General Membership Meeting Minutes
July 16, 2003
A general membership meeting was held at 7:00 p.m., July 16, 2003, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Lake Odessa, MI.
Board Members Present
- Mike Cary, President
- Bill Walker, Vice President
- Katy Estes, Treasurer
- Steve Schuiling, Secretary
- Dave Creguer, Mike Reed and Don Acker (District Reps)
Call to Order
President Cary called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. The meeting minutes from the November 17, 2002, JLA General Membership Meeting were read. Schuiling noted one correction: Mike Reed was present at the last meeting.
Treasurer's Report
Katy Estes reported that $775 is in checking and that there are 28 paid memberships for 2003. She also reported that at one-time, 93 memberships were active. Estes will send out renewal reminders to previous JLA members.
Boat Parade
Don Acker reported that the Boat Parade would take place at 7:00 or 7:30 p.m. on August 2, 2003. The details of the start time, judging, and PA system announcement would be worked out at the Boat Parade committee meeting. The next boat parade meeting is at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003 at Richie's Café. Acker also reported that the Sheriff has been contacted regarding the parade. In addition, a member of the Summer Splash committee said that the appropriate permits have been filed for the water ski show and boat parade. Note that entry forms would not be required for this year's parade.
Weed Control Board
Bill Walker reported that the weed control board is discussing options for continuing to improve the water quality of Jordan Lake. One of the options is to replenish oxygen levels in the lake via aeration. Walker also noted that Jordan Lake has been treated this year using a chemical called SONAR.
"No Parking Signs"
Mike Carey said that "NO PARKING" Signs were installed at the public landing to reduce parking congestion. The signs were removed this year after an ownership dispute (as to who owns the road) erupted between the Barry County Road Commission and the DNR. Once this dispute is resolved Carey will report back to the Jordan Lake Association and the future of the no parking signs will be re-addressed.
Police Patrols
Overall, members of the Association felt that more patrols are needed on Jordan Lake. However, it may be difficult to ensure that a Sheriff's deputy is patrolling the lake during peak periods. The Association agreed to have Mike Carey write Ionia County Sheriff Dennis a letter regarding the Association's request for more patrols.
New Business
Todd Dreysse spoke on behalf of the Wednesday evening bass fishing contestants. He said that the purpose of his comments were to open communication between the bass fishermen and the property owners of Jordan Lake. Mr. Dreysee has been fishing Jordan Lake for many years and is committed to improving the conditions of the lake and communication between fishermen. After much discussion, it was suggested that Mr. Dreysee (or another fisherman) attend the JLA meetings.
Adjournment:
There being no other business, the meeting was adjourned.
