SUMMER ON JORDAN LAKE
The summer season is finally upon us after a cold, wet Spring. It appears
the condition of Jordan Lake is better than ever. The weed situation is
basically under control, thanks to the Lake Improvement Board and
Professional Lake Management.
With the boating season in full swing, it is important to remember
some of the basic elements of safe and courteous boating:
·
All powered boats and personal watercraft are to travel
counter-clockwise at all times.
·
Stay at least 100 ft. from all boats, docks and bathing
areas. Use no-wake speeds within 100 ft. of these areas.
·
Personal watercraft shall only be
operated during the hours of 8:00 AM and 1 hour before sunset. NOTE: The authorities plan to enforce this rule quite vigorously
this season.
·
All passengers must be in seats. Riding on decks or gunwales is illegal.
Children under 6 must wear a life vest. Life vests or
suitable flotation devices must be available to all passengers. NOTE: This is another area of increased enforcement this season
·
A competent observer and a 170 degree
rearview mirror are required on any craft when pulling a skier, tuber, etc.
·
Speed limit for all boats is 55 mph.
·
Noise level cannot exceed 70 db measured from shore.
Factory exhaust systems must also not exceed 70 db. Cutouts are illegal on all
boats.
·
Personal watercraft shall not cross another boat’s wake
within 150 ft of the other boat.
Let’s have a safe summer on Jordan Lake!

JORDAN
LAKE ASS’N. BOARD MEETING
A meeting of the Jordan Lake Association Board
was held on May 17th, 2003. A number of issues were
discussed:
1.
Officers
for the 2003 were selected with the current slate being retained as follows:
President Mike Cary
Vice President Bill Walker
Treasurer Katy Estes
Secretary Steve Schuiling
2. The Boat Parade Committee was
selected. The parade and a possible
theme discussed.
3. Bill Walker updated the Board on the condition
of Jordan Lake and possible future plans. He indicated that the Weed Control
Board is in the final year of a five-year treatment program managed by
Professional Lake Management. Overall, Bill stated that the Weed Control Board
and PLM are pleased the conditions on Jordan Lake with weeds generally ‘in
check.’ Bill further stated that the
Weed Control Board is in the exploratory phase of an aeration system for the
lake to improve oxygen levels and stabilize temperature levels by pumping air
throughout the lake. The process of aeration is expensive to purchase and
operate. The process on a lake the size of Jordan Lake has
not been completely evaluated at this time.
4. Gary Calkins was introduced
as the new Board member representing District 5.
5. Gary Calkins suggested that the Lake
Association contact the DNR about adding fish to the lake.
